The 3-Week Audit Checklist (Student + Parent)

1. Every Syllabus Has Been Read (Not Skimmed)

Why this matters:
The syllabus is the contract. When it’s ignored, surprises multiply… and stress follows.

Audit:

  • Can the student explain how grades are calculated?

  • Do they know attendance rules, late policies, exam dates?

If things are solid:
Parent talking point:

“I love that you actually know how this class works. That’s a strong start.”

If this is missing:
Pivot conversation:

“Let’s treat this like a systems issue, not a motivation issue. When do you want to sit down and really read these?”


2. A Complete Semester Calendar Exists

Why this matters:
If deadlines live in five different platforms, they live nowhere.

Audit:

  • Are all exams, major assignments, and due dates in one calendar?

  • Can the student see busy weeks coming?

If things are solid:

“You’ve reduced future stress by doing this early.”

If this is missing:

“Right now your brain is doing too much remembering. Let’s give it a break.”


3. Classes Missed (By Class)

Why this matters:
Attendance is the #1 predictor of academic success. Full stop.

Audit:

  • How many classes have been missed already?

  • Is there a pattern forming?

If things are solid:

“Showing up consistently is one of the hardest habits. You’re doing it.”

If this is slipping:

“Let’s talk about what’s making mornings hard......not about blame.”


4. Assignments Completed vs. Missed

Why this matters:
Missing early assignments is how grades quietly bleed out.

Audit:

  • Any zeros already?

  • Any “almost turned in” moments?

If things are solid:

“Turning in work on time is a system win, not a personality trait.”

If this is slipping:

“What part of the process breaks down?  Is it starting, finishing, or submitting?”


5. First Quiz / Assignment Grades Reviewed

Why this matters:
Early grades are feedback, not verdicts.

Audit:

  • Has your student really sat down and considered why they earned that grade?

  • Any surprises?

If things are solid:

“You used feedback early—that’s how improvement actually happens.”

If this was rough:

“This isn’t a failure. It’s data. Let’s use it.”


6. Test Prep Has Already Started

Why this matters:
Cramming is not a strategy—it’s a symptom of no system.

Audit:

  • Are they doing any light, weekly review?

  • Or is prep being postponed?

  • Do they have a study plan for the first test because it is coming fast?

If things are solid:

“Future you is going to be very grateful.”

If this hasn’t started:

“Let’s build a rhythm now, while the stakes are still low.”


The Bigger Truth Parents Need to Hear

Bold truth: Your student doesn’t need more pressure. They need better systems.

When these audits reveal cracks, it doesn’t mean your student is failing.
